Oh this is fun. Now I'm going to be thinking of all the picture books I've read over the years and trying to land on just the right home for my family. :-)
I think the home of the March family in Little Women would be a lovely place to live, with Green Gables as a close second. I'd like to visit/vacation at Heidi's grandfather's hut in the Alps - or the cool tree house in The Swiss Family Robinson.
All excellent options! Where I live there are a number of houses that resemble the March family house, and one of my favorite activities is to stare at them wistfully.
I absolutely loved all the pricing on each house. Miss Rumphiu’s house would be worth every penny… now all I need is a lot of pennies.
And if ever you find a turnkey Victorian where someone hasn’t gutted it and painted all the woodwork sad beige, it would be worth whatever they were asking!
Oh Miss Rumphius' house would be my pick too, with the warm wooden tree coming in a CLOSE second. I bet no one's even thought to paint one of those sad beige yet!
This was hilarious! Great post. I particularly liked, "no weird stuff at all" on TaWimP. Also I can empathize with housing frustrations. In late 2019, we decided to pause our house hunt for a bit. Turns out prices went up 30-40% four months later 🤦🏻
What a concept! I like picture book real estate much more than the real life version. Can I pay for these in picture book currency too?
Definitely. Many sellers will accept magic acorns, spaghetti, or your firstborn child. But, a cash payment all in pennies is usually preferred.
Haha what a fun read! Some new books there for me too. More basement pics pls x
Oh yes have to get some "after" pics! I'm especially proud of the very special dedicated area for my running shoes that never get used 😆

Ooh, when you figure out which one let me know!

I’d happily take any of these houses! Well, maybe not the wolf’s belly, but it does look pretty cozy. Congrats on your basement!
Thanks, Taylor! I think the wolf's belly is just one of those properties you really need to see in person to appreciate.
Definitely. And maybe upgrade it with a window or two.
Haha ouch! Good luck getting planning permissions for that one.
Yeah it’s an issue
I LOVED this post! It made me smile ear to ear, and it made me want to draw houses (not sure if you intended for that, but there it is!)
Also, congrats on successfully becoming a basement person.
Those are the best side effects I can think of! Thanks so much, Mirelle! Sincerely, a basement person.

I’m pretty sure it’s against the law to paint the woodwork in either of those houses!
I loved this post! What a great tour through picture book properties 😍
Thank you, Jane!

Thanks so much, Matt! TaWimP is excellent shorthand that I will now be using. Sheesh, yeah, house-hunting is actually just a giant game of roulette!
